Sparkplug and Talon and the Parents decision: book four
Sparkplug and Talon and the Parents' Decision
Sparkplug (Tom Plex)
landed on the ground and waited for Talon (Sally Plex) to land near him.
Sparkplug pressed his
watch and his superhero suit disappeared.
A peregrine falcon landed by
him and turned into a nine year old girl.
Sally pressed her watch and
her suit disappeared.
“Have you ever wondered
who is sending us these messages?” Sally asked her ten year old brother.
“No, but now I am,” Tom
replied.
“Let’s think about it
while we rest,” Sally suggested.
The siblings raced in side
their house.
After dinner Tom and Sally
went to bed.
When Tom woke up the moonlight shone through his window. Other than the moon and the stars it was pitch black outside. Thoughts were racing through his mind why had he woken up?
Suddenly there was a buzz
on his wrist he looked down and gasped.
There was a face in his
watch.
Tom jumped out of bed and
into Sally’s room.
Sally was sitting in bed
rubbing her eyes.
“Look at your watch,” Tom ordered.
Sally looked down and
gasped.
“Who are you,” she asked
in a small voice.
“I am Commander Grov,” the
voice replied, “and I have a mission for you.”
“Since when have you given
us missions?” Tom asked scornfully.
“Since you were foolish
enough to stop a runaway train without being told to,” the commander replied, “you
know your first mission.”
Sally gasped again, “You
are our mission resource?”
“Yes,” Commander Grov said,
“now if you will let me continue you need to be on the watch for thieves in
your neighborhood tonight.”
“Why?” Tom asked.
“Because we came across
plans of their being a serious robbery in your neighborhood,” he said.
“Okay we're on it,” Sally
said.
“Perfect,” Commander Grov, “Tom,
press the top left button on your watch.”
Tom obeyed and a round tap
slid out, it had to ear pieces.
“Give one to Sally,” the
commander commanded.
Tom did so and put his own
in his ear.
The commander said, “These
ear pieces will let you talk to each other from long distances, they also make
it possible for Sally to communicate when in animal form she can only talk
through the ear piece,” then Commander Grov disappeared from the watch faces.
“I’ll take the north and east
sides of the neighborhood and you take south and west side,” Sally said taking
charge.
“Sounds good,” Tom said.
The siblings split up.
Tom took to his friend’s roof;
it had a view of the southern entrance and the western entrance to the
neighborhood.
Sparkplug had been sitting
on the roof just a couple of minutes. His eyes itched and his head dropped down against his chest. He was dozing peacefully when there was static in his ear piece
then Talons voice came through clearly, “Sparkplug do you read me? I repeat, do
you read me?”
“I read you loud and
clear,” Sparkplug yawned.
“Were you sleeping? Never mind, don't answer that,” Talon said, “I see the robbers at your end of the neighborhood.”
Sparkplug looked up so
fast that his neck popped.
Sure enough six people in
black hoodies and ski masks were walking through yards and jumping fences,
Sparkplug froze, he didn’t have a plan.
Suddenly much too soon the
thieves were in Sparkplugs back yard and Sparkplug noticed that they were all teenagers. Sparkplug, not very surprised at the new information, flew after them just in time to
hear the tallest thief say, “this is the one we're robbing tonight.”
Sparkplug landed behind
them, “You’re robbing this nice house, that’s not good,” he said.
The robber closest to Sparkplug whirled around and, before Sparkplug could fly out of reach, he snagged the sleeve of Sparkplug's suit.
Sparkplug tried to fly away but the teenager had a firm grip. Sparkplug reached down to
zap the thief but a second thief grabbed his arms and held them behind Sparkplug's back. The hero was trapped.
The shortest robber pulled
out a pistol and pointed it at Sparkplug. He was about to shoot him when there
was a loud screech.
A Peregrine Falcon swooped
down and grabbed the pistol and swooped down again and turned into a golden cougar.
The cougar stepped on the
gun and it broke.
Then the cougar turned into a monkey and leaped onto the shortest thief's head and pulled his hair.
The robber was stunned.
In that split second of confusion Talon turned into a falcon and raked her talon's down the robber's face.
There was a scream and pain and the robber fell to his knees.
Talon flew to another robber and turned into a cougar and kicked him in the chest.
The robber fell down, hard.
The rest of the robbers were scrambling toward the fence.
Sparkplug made a lightning robe and wound up the robbers.
Sparkplug was getting ready to fly to the police station with the robbers when a door opened.
Sparkplug and Talon stared as their mom and dad stepped outside.
Mrs. Plex looked terrified, she was shaking from head to foot.
Mr. Plex had a shotgun in his arms and had a determined look on his face.
“Mom this isn’t what it looks like,” Sparkplug started. "Dad you can put that gun down."
“Did you just call me mom and Bill dad?”
Mrs. Plex said, then she looked closely at her son and gasped, “Tom is that
you?”
“Yes,” Tom replied, “don’t
freak out but Sally and I are super heroes. The cougar is Sally I call her Talon because
she can turn into two different birds,” Tom pointed and the cougar as it turned human.
“Mom,” Sally said, “we’ve
been lying to you, when we said we were going to the park and the woods we were
really going on missions that were given to us by Commander Grov in the
military.”
Mr. and Mrs. Plex were so stunned that they couldn't breathe. Then they shook their heads and closed their eyes.
"Tie those robbers to the fence and then come inside," Mr. Plex ordered.
Sparkplug shook his head. "The rope is electrified, I have lightning powers, if I tie it to the fence it will slowly ruin it. Sally and knock out the robbers though."
Sally turned into a cougar and sat down on the robber's chests. She yelped as the rope shocked her but she was mostly protected by her touch hide.
Soon the robbers' eyes rolled and they passed out.
Talon stood up and Sparkplug's rope disappeared.
The family walked inside and Mr. Plex called the cops.
the family sat on the couch and the parents glared at their kids.
Sally cowered behind Tom. Both of the siblings were thinking the same thing. 'At least our last mission was a success."
There was a long silence before it was broken.
“I hope you're not afraid like this on your next missions,” Mr. Plex said.
“You mean we can still go
on missions,” Tom asked hopefully, as if it were too good to be true.
The sibling’s parents nodded.
“Boo yaw,” the kids said in
unison.
“But from now on don’t lie to us,” Mr. Plex said. "And be careful."
Both kids nodded vigorously.
Police sirens blared as tired screeched to a stop in front of the house.
“Mom,” Tom said, “can we
watch from the roof?”
“Fine,” their mom answered. "But hurry."
The two kids pressed their
watches and their suits disappeared.
“Cool," Mr. Plex, who was an engineer, said
The two kids then flew up
to the roof (Sally in eagle form) and watched the police through the robbers
into the back of the police cruiser.
Mr. and Mrs. Plex spoke to the cops. Tom and Sally could hear every word from the roof.
"How were these boys knocked out so effectively?" The police officer asked.
"Come on down," Mr. Plex invited.
Sally turned into a human, clicked her suit button, and turned back into a bird. Tom clicked his as well. The two siblings flew to the ground.
"Something tipped us off that there would be a robbery. Don't worry, we'll be here when needed."
When the cops left the kids and their parents walked and flew into
the house and Sally showed Mr. and Mrs. Plex what animals she could turn into.
“Mom and Dad,” Tom said, “me
and Sally need you to keep this a secret okay.”
“Okay, why,” asked his
dad.
“I don’t know but in all
the T.V. shows the super heroes keep their secret identity well secret,” Tom
said grinning.
“Okay,” their dad laughed,
“we’ll keep you’re secret.”
“What does Sally call you
when you’re saving the world?” their mom asked.
Sally and Tom answered
together grinning, “Sparkplug!” they said.
