 My latest Adventures

Since my last post, some cool stuff has happened.

Since the beginning of February, two of my brothers and I have been running track for the high school by my house. You might be thinking, “Watson, you’re only twelve, what are you doing running high school track?”

Well that is one of the beauties of the south. There are very few middle school sports because seventh and eighth graders are allowed to do (or at least try out for) varsity sports, I’m only on the JV team though. There are a couple other middle schoolers who do track at the same high school so I’m not too much of a sore thumb. I run with the long distance group, which is the group of people who run the 800, 1600, and 3200. I’ve only run the 1600 though. I set a PR in that event a while ago at 6:37. Not super fast, but when your previous PR was seven minutes and eleven seconds, it’s a big achievement.

I’ve been doing track for most of the season, but a couple weeks ago I decided to try doing pole vault. It was a blast. I’m still not very good, but at a meet I cleared the seven foot bar first try and then cleared the seven foot six inch bar. The JV season is over now, so I’m not allowed to practice pole vault any more. I’m still allowed to go to track practice though, so I’ve been continuing that.

Another fun thing is that my parents got to go to my uncle’s wedding! Congrats, Brent and Amy! Since we live a long way away from my uncle, only my parents went. This meant that my two brothers, my sister and I got to stay home and eat ice cream! We went to Walmart on the way home from track practice and got ice cream. One of the flavors that we decided to try was called Unicorn Sparkle. Don’t worry though. It has three grams of protein per serving, which obviously means that it’s healthy.                                               The name might make it sound like the ice cream is questionable,                                               but if that is what you think, then you need to try it because It’s                                                      INCREDIBLE!!!

We got the ice cream and                                                 each had at least a bowl before eating dinner, then having another                                               bowl. Then, the next day for breakfast, we each had half a carrot                                              to stay healthy before eating another bowl of ice cream. I have a very important message to all of you kids who have been told that you can’t have too much ice cream because it has too much sugar. They are lying to you. I was only twitching for half the day.

About a month ago my mom and I did the Cooper River Bridge Run. It is a 10k that goes over a two-mile-long bridge. It’s very famous. In fact, this year, there were 36,000 people running or walking it. Look it up and you will see pictures of people packed onto a bridge. It’s insane. If you want to get ahead of people you have to go full on Lightning McQueen and search for the window in between people for you to get through. It was my first 10K so I was pretty nervous. It was pretty tough but I ended up doing it. I was just doing it to say that I did it so I wasn’t trying to go fast. My time ended up being 59 minutes and thirty something seconds.

I also made a ton of money this past month. For Easter, I started making a sort of Easter nativity out of wood. My dad has been woodworking since he was my age so he has a lot of power tools. I used the band saw to cut out the tomb, the stone, Jesus and my finger in the process. The blade went straight through my pinky nail and started to cut my finger before I had time to jerk it back. Luckily it only got a little bit into the skin before I had time to act. It’s fine now though, and the nativities turned out great. Here are some pictures of them:

All in all I got about a hundred and fifty dollars from these Easter scenes. It’s a pretty good deal.

So as you can see, it’s been pretty fun around here. Tell me in the comments what fun things that you’ve been doing.

  1. I love the Easter scenes, and greta job with the 10K run! That's no joke!
Also, I'm glad tyou liked the Unicorn Rainbow ice cream - I'll admit, it's not my favorite. But it must have reminded you of Ireland, where they have unicorns and rainbows all over.
